Are you overwhelmed with too much information on site promotion? What are the most important areas to concentrate on? Where should I start?
Suggested priorities
Concentrate on your page titles and find as many relevant keywords and keyphrases as possible. These are the most important elements for search engines when they index your web-site.
If you are earning more than 1 cent a visitor (1 cent is about two thirds of a UK penny) you should seriously consider the pay-per-click directories. I use pay-per-click companies to drive 100s of thousands of visitors to ed-u.com and its sister site, Highstreetcentral.com. To find out how much you are earning on average per page, simply divide your monthly profit by your monthly page views. If you do not have access to your site statistics, sign up at Extreme where in return for placing a small button advertisement on each of your pages, they will provide you with excellent free on-line statistics that you can view from your normal browser.
Seek reciprocal links with the sites that come top in the search engines results for your best keywords.
Increase the amount of pages on your web-site with worthwhile content that other web-sites will want to link to. You should expect the amount of traffic to directly equate with how many pages you have (and the amount and quality of sites that link to them). Whilst some pages will only attract only a few visitors a week, others could attract hundreds. Throw your pages to the wind and let the search engines sort the wheat from the chaff. Study the chaff, learn from your mistakes and avoid them.
...and remember that your results will match the amount of effort you are prepared to put in. Knowledge is great, action is better!
